Expose Honda/Nissan merged into one! The Japanese government has taken action
Recently, according to foreign media reports, the Japanese government is trying to promote the merger of Honda and Nissan to further strengthen the competitiveness of Japanese auto companies.
According to people familiar with the matter, the Japanese government proposed to build a "national automobile champion enterprise" as early as the end of 2019. They are worried that traditional automobile companies will lose their competitive advantage after the acceleration of the auto industry's automation and electrification transformation.
It should be noted that this merger plan did not proceed smoothly, and Nissan and Honda have rejected the proposal. Among them, Honda said: "The complex capital structure between Nissan and Renault is their biggest concern"; Nissan said: "Because Nissan is currently focusing on restoring the existing alliance.
Subsequently, the outbreak of the new crown pneumonia epidemic also disrupted the government's progress in promoting the merger plan.
Currently, Japan has eight major auto brands, but four of them — Mazda, Subaru, Suzuki, and Daihatsu — cross-shareholdings with Toyota, the world’s second-largest automaker.
At the same time, Nissan formed a tripartite alliance between Renault and its smaller rival Mitsubishi Motors. Therefore, Honda became the only group without a fixed alliance partner.
