The more popular blade battery technology recently introduced by BYD is the representative of the completely module-free technical solution. It consists of large batteries with a length of more than 0.6 meters, arranged together in an array, and inserted into the battery like a "blade" Inside the bag. Therefore, it is also called a "blade battery". In this way, the volume of the battery increases by 50%, the cost is reduced by 30%, and the cruising range reaches 600km, the battery will adopt the CTP method.


Another way to realize the new energy battery CTP technology is to replace the previous small module with a large module. Instead of completely canceling the module, remove the side panel of the previous small module and connect it with a tie to connect the module. To be bigger, representative companies include Tesla, CATL, and Hive Energy. The main highlight is the use of a sleeve connection method between the module and the module to closely fit together, and at the same time, there is a fixing device under the sleeve to connect with the whole vehicle, so that the entire module simplifies the structure and also achieves lightweight.


From the above analysis, it can be seen that the new energy battery CTP technology is not very advanced technology, it is nothing more than the use of large batteries and large modules, which mainly optimize the internal connection of the battery pack, eliminating the need for intermediate processes. Components, thereby simplifying the assembly process and flow.


Advantages and disadvantages of new energy battery CTP technology


The new energy battery CTP technology can save or reduce the end plates, side plates and screws used to fix the modules of the assembled module, and can improve the volume utilization rate. Due to the reduction of parts and components, the weight is reduced, so the mass energy density can also be improved, and the cruising range of the vehicle can also be improved.


As the battery assembly process is simpler, manpower, material resources and other manufacturing costs are saved, and the cost of parts and components is reduced, and the cost of the battery pack will also be reduced.

But new energy battery CTP technology cancels the module link, which will also bring many risks.

The new energy battery CTP technology has higher requirements for the consistency of the battery cell. The deformation of the battery cell due to the expansion of charge and discharge and the deterioration of the heat dissipation performance need to be considered at the level of the entire battery pack.


The module is cancelled, and the protection of the battery cell from thermal runaway at the module level is also cancelled; at the same time, the corresponding BMS sampling and control strategy also needs to be changed.

In addition, the new energy battery CTP technology, once a single battery cell fails, it will involve the replacement of the entire battery pack, instead of just replacing a certain module before, and the maintenance cost will increase significantly
